Just like George Couros describes in his article, I, too, made the experience that „we often punish the majority of our students because the fear of what the few might do.“
This got me thinking on a tangent. You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve heard teachers say something to the effect of „I can’t afford to experiment, because students will laugh at me“. And it’s these fears that lead us to discard every idea we have right from the start, instead of trying new things. Instead of pretending to be all knowing, rather have the courage to admit that you don’t know everything. There’s neither shame nor loss of trust in saying „I don’t know, but let’s look it up“.
